The Seattle Sounders host Western Conference foe Sporting Kansas City in the finale of Week 22 of the MLS regular season Sunday at CenturyLink Field.
The Sounders (11-6-5) sit in second place in the West, but trail leaders LAFC by 11 points. The Rave Green are coming off a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo, their third road victory of the season. Jordan Morris scored the lone goal, a disputed tally because Dynamo coach Wilmer Cabrera said the USMNT winger should have been called for a foul in the immediate buildup.
Sporting Kansas City (6-9-7) fell six points below the playoff line in the West following a 3-1 defeat to NYCFC at Yankee Stadium last Friday. After going down two goals from a first-half strike by Anton Tinnerholm and Heber's 54th-minute tally and a man when Roger Espinoza was shown a straight red card following Video Review in the 61st minute, Ilie Sanchez pulled the visitors to within a goal in the 73rd minute. But Alex Ring, who assisted on the earlier goals, put the game out of reach four minutes later, sending Sporting to a second straight defeat.
This is the second meeting this season with Sporting winning 3-2 at Children's Mercy Park May 26 thanks to Johnny Russell's hat trick. Raul Ruidiaz and Kelvin Leerdam scored for the Sounders as both teams combined for three goals in an eight-minute span in the second half.
