July 25, 5:41 pm ET: LAFC have an open Designated Player spot, and reports emerged throughout the Americas on Thursday that they have their sights on the player to fill that slot.

LAFC are said to be nearing a deal for Uruguayan attacker Brian Rodriguez, who currently plays for Peñarol, at a reported $11.5 million fee.

Rodriguez, 19, is just breaking through in Peñarol's first team, the same club that LAFC young star Diego Rossi made his professional debut with. A versatile attacker, Rodriguez played in the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland for Uruguay, and is capable of setting up goals as well as scoring.

Stateside reports indicate a deal is not yet done for Rodriguez.

And ESPN's Taylor Twellman reported on Thursday that LAFC GM John Thorrington was in transit to complete the deal.

LAFC sit atop the Supporters' Shield standings at present, and will welcome Atlanta United to Banc of California Stadium on Friday (10 pm ET | ESPN in US; TSN2 in Canada).
