D.C. United have signed attacker Gordon Wild, who spent the last two years with Atlanta United, and waived defender Akeem Ward, the club announced Wednesday.

“We are excited to be adding a young talent in Gordon,” Dave Kasper, United GM and VP of soccer operations, said in a statement. “Gordon has all the tools to be an MLS player, and we believe a change of scenery will do him well.”

Wild is no stranger to the District. The former University of Maryland star was selected 37th overall by Atlanta in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft as a Generation adidas player, but struggled to break through with the first team. He is expected to be in the gameday 18-man roster for D.C.'s friendly against Olympique Marseille at Audi Field Wednesday.

The 23-year-old was loaned to the Charleston Battery in the USL Championship on Feb. 13, 2018. In his first professional season in the USL, he scored seven goals and recorded three assists in 32 league appearances.

A product of the FC Mainz academy in Germany, Wild joined Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship on March 14. He has scored one goal in eight appearances this season before being waived  July 17, 2019.

United waived Ward, who was selected 14th overall by the Black-and-Red in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He made one MLS appearance for United in the 0-0 draw against Toronto FC May 15, but was a regular for the club's USL affiliate, Loudoun United.

“We wish Akeem all the best in his next endeavors and thank him for his time with the club,” Kasper said.
