Mohamed El-Munir to undergo surgery after Zlatan Ibrahimovic challenge

Ibrahimovic elbow - THUMB ONLY

LAFC left back Mohamed El-Munir will undergo surgery after a Zlatan Ibrahimovic elbow hit him in the LA Galaxy's 3-2 win over LAFC on Friday night. El-Munir saw a specialist for a facial injury on Monday and is likely set for surgery this week to correct a zygomatic fracture, an LAFC staffer confirmed.

Ibrahimovic leaped for an aerial duel, his elbow making firm contact with El-Munir's head in the process. An MLS spokesperson confirmed that the incident could potentially fall within the MLS Disciplinary Committee's reviewing criteria.

ESPN's Taylor Twellman initially reported that DisCo are on alert.

El-Munir's former teammate Amro Tarek added on Twitter the severity of the injury.

El-Munir, 27, has made 10 appearances for the club since joining from Orlando City this offseason.
