UPDATE, AUGUST 6: The Washington Post's Steven Goff reported on Tuesday that D.C. were deep in talks with Garcia.
DCU is deep in talks with Argentine winger Mateo Garcia (Las Palmas/Aris). It would be an estimated $3 million transfer. Trade talks continue, as well, and could hinge of whether the Garcia deal gets done.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 6, 2019
TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Mateo Garcia, a left winger currently on the books at Spanish second-division club UD Las Palmas, is the player in question. Garcia, 22, is a product of the youth system at Instituto de Cordoba and moved to the Canary Islands in 2016 for a transfer fee reported at a shade under $500,000.
He's since gone out on loan three times, twice in Spain and most recently to Greek club Aris for last season, which appears to have piqued the interest of other suitors in Greece. BlackandRedUnited.com were the first English-language outlet to report on Garcia's links to D.C.; find more details in their report. The Athletic's Pablo Maurer subsequently confirmed that there's interest:
#DCU have been in touch with Argentine winger Mateo Garcia, I can confirm. Garcia was most recently with Greek club Aris (on loan from La Liga B side Las Palmas.) (h/t @Deportes_lp, @blackandredU for first reporting potential link.)— Pablo Maurer (@MLSist) July 15, 2019
