Former Barcelona, Roma and Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is out of contract, and one of the teams interested in the 33-year-old Belgian is the New England Revolution, according to a report.
Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad reports that there is interest both in and outside of Europe for Vermaelen, who has 74 caps for the Belgium national team and is a veteran of three World Cups.
In addition to the Revs, Belgian stalwards Anderlecht and greek titans Olympiakos have shown interest, as have Qatar's Al Arabi and China's Shandong Luneng.
Hearing that #NERevs interest in Thomas Vermaelen is 100% genuine.— Julian Cardillo (@JulianCardillo) July 3, 2019
Wouldn't be shocked if Dave van den Bergh (former Ajax) plays some part in this since TV started his career there.
Have to wonder if NE will be able to afford him given the deep pockets of teams in 🇧🇭,🇨🇳 #MLS
Additionally, Pro Soccer USA's Julian Cardillo tweeted that he's hearing Revs interest in Vermaelen is real.
Vermaelen would be one of the most decorated current players in MLS if he were to join, as he has won one UEFA Champions League title, four La Liga trophies, two Copas del Rey, a league title in the Eredivisie, and one FA Cup.
