With US menā€™s national team midfielder Christian Pulisic moving to Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund could have bid farewell to their Yanksā€™ following. Think again.

US U-17 centerpiece Giovanni Reyna made it official Monday, signing with the Bundesliga club, with his next step set at Dortmundā€™s U-19 team. Thatā€™s the same level Pulisic thrived at before breaking into BVBā€™s first team.

The 16-year-old attacking midfielder played an integral role as the U.S. qualified for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup this fall in Brazil, scoring six goals before a loss to Mexico in the championship match. Reyna spent several years in New York City FCā€™s academy and helped their U-19 team win a national title in 2017-18 over the LA Galaxy. He also starred in the Generation adidas Cup.

Reyna was able to sign at 16 by securing a Portuguese passport through his mother, Maria. His father, Claudio, is the sporting director for NYCFC and a former captain of the USMNT.

The move to Dortmund has long been rumored, though now is completed. Reyna joins a wave of young Americans in Germany, including, but not limited to, center back Chris Richards at Bayern Munich and outside back Chris Gloster at Hannover 96.
