Chicago Fire's Djordje Mihailovic added to US national team Gold Cup roster

US national team head coach Gregg Berhalter has called on Chicago Fire midfielder Djordje Mihailovic to replace the injured Duane Holmes on the USA's 23-man Gold Cup roster.

According to US Soccer, Holmes was forced to withdraw after re-aggravating a left quadriceps strain which he suffered prior to the end of his club season with Derby County in England.

Gold Cup tournament regulations allow participating teams to replace a player on the roster due to injury up to 24 hours prior to a team's opening match with the replacement coming from the previously announced 40-player provisional roster.

Mihailovic will report to USMNT camp on Saturday, June 15, just days ahead the USA's opening Group D match against Guyana on Tuesday at Allianz Field, home of Minnesota United (10 pm ET on FS1, UniMás, TSN 1/3).

The 20-year-old Fire Homegrown player debuted for the senior US team earlier this year on January 27 and he has accumulated a total of three caps. His debut was a memorable, starting and scoring in a 3-0 win over Panama, one of the USA's opponents in this year's Gold Cup group stage.

Mihailovic has appeared in all 16 Chicago Fire matches this regular season, starting 13 of them and contributing two goals.

A total of 18 of 23 players on the USA's Gold Cup roster currently play for MLS clubs and only two of the 23 men have never played for an MLS club or an MLS academy (Christian Pulisic and Tyler Boyd).
