Seattle Sounders win Cristian Roldan appeal; red card rescinded

Cristian Roldan and Eduard Atuesta - April 28, 2019

The Independent Panel has issued a ruling on one appeal following Week 9 of the 2019 MLS regular season.

Roldan red card appeal

The Independent Review Panel, consisting of one representative each from the U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association and Professional Referees Organization (PRO), has unanimously rescinded the one-game suspension and accompanying fine for the violent conduct red card Seattle Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan received in the 18th minute of Seattle’s match against the Los Angeles Football Club on April 28.

As a result of Seattle’s appeal, Roldan is eligible to play in the Sounders’ next regular season game on Saturday, May 4, against Minnesota United (8 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, DAZN in Canada).

Each club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including the MLS Cup Playoffs. Since Seattle’s appeal was successful, the club maintains its two unsuccessful appeals for any future dismissals in the 2019 season.
