Montreal Impact sign CCL star Omar Browne from CAI Independiente

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Loan

The Montreal Impact have acquired attacker Omar Browne on loan from Panamanian club CAI Independiente, the club announced Tuesday.

Browne, 24, was one of the leading stars in CAI's Cinderella run to the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals, helping orchestrate his club's upset of Toronto FC and then pushed Sporting Kansas City to the brink. In the competition, Browne had two goals and an assist.

"Omar is a young attacking player who adds depth to our group," Impact head coach Rémi Garde said in a statement. "He's technically gifted, quick, and powerful. It's interesting to have a left-footed player who can play both on the left and on the right."

The attacker can play through the center or on the wing and turned heads with his pace and dribbling ability. He also has four caps, with two starts, for the Panamanian national team.

Browne has spent his whole career in his native country to date, winning the top flight title with CAI last year, as well as with Plaza Amador in 2016, and he has five CCL appearances under his belt. He's also played for Sporting San Miguelito and Chorrillo in his career. In 2014, he trialed with the Seattle Sounders, but was not signed.
