How does Ibrahimovic and Vela's scoring starts compare to 2018 Martinez?

A year ago, Josef Martinez smashed Major League Soccer’s single-season scoring record with his 31 regular season goals.

Through the first month and a half of the 2019 season, both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Carlos Vela are outpacing last year’s runaway Golden Boot winner.

Ibrahimovic, who struck for a first-half brace on Saturday against the Philadelphia Union, has six goals in six matches. However, the LA Galaxy forward missed two matches to injury, which puts his average as 1.5 goals per 90 minutes with his six goals in 360 minutes (four matches).

Meanwhile Vela, who leads this season's Golden Boot race by two goals over Ibrahimovic, has eight goals in 619 minutes, equaling 1.16 goals per 90 minutes.

In comparison, Atlanta's Martinez had five goals in six matches (528 minutes) in 2018, putting his average at 0.85 per 90 minutes.
