TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

As the winter transfer window ended in Europe, one of the most-talked-about stories stateside was Paris Saint-Germainā€™s pursuit of D.C. United midfielder Luciano Acosta.

While the PSG news has cooled off, a report from Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik has Fenerbahce's interest in Acosta heating up.

The PSG deal reportedly fell through at the last minute as the Eastern Conference club began preseason preparations for the 2019 season. The two sides failed to agree upon a transfer fee for the Argentine playmaker.

In the meantime, D.C. has made clear that they hope to sign Acosta to a long-term deal before his contract ends. If the Black-and-Red don't sign Acosta to an extension by the summer, he could sign a pre-contract with other clubs before making a winter move.

Acosta, 24, sparked to life last season when D.C. acquired Wayne Rooney, ultimately recording 10 goals and 17 assists as the club rode the opening of Audi Field in July to make the playoffs.

Through three games this season, Acosta has a goal and two assists. He was originally acquired by D.C. ahead of the 2016 season on loan from Argentine club Boca Juniors.

Through late March, Fenerbahce sit in the bottom third of the Turkish Super Lig standings. Barring a drastic turn of events, they wonā€™t qualify for next season's Europa League or Champions League.
