Montreal Impact head coach Remi Garde could be a summer target for his former club Olympique Lyonnais, according to a report from Montreal-based journalist Arcadio Marcuzzi.
Appearing on the IMFCRadio show, Marcuzzi said Lyon are contemplating Garde as the replacement for current boss Bruno Genesio at the end of their current season. Les Gones are currently running in third place in Ligue 1 and are deadlocked with FC Barcelona at the halfway mark of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 series, which began with a 0-0 draw in Lyon last month and concludes in Barcelona next week.
But it seems that OLās outspoken chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is unsatisfied with the squadās performance relative to its quality and might seek a homecoming for Garde, now in his second season in charge of the Impact. Garde's current contract with IMFC runs through 2019.
Garde made his name as a manager at Lyon, the club he led from 2011-14 and also served as a player from 1987-93. Under his watch OL won the 2012 Coupe de France (French Cup) and went on to hoist the Trophee des Champions (French super cup) later that year, earning respect for staying competitive despite wave after wave of outbound player sales.
The Frenchman also managed English side Aston Villa, a contentious stint that lasted less than a year as the Villains fought unsuccessfully against relegation from the Premier League in the 2015/16 campaign.
