Even before the kickoff of their 2019 Major League Soccer regular season opener against FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium, the New England Revolution lost a key starter to injury on Saturday.

Central defender Michael Mancienne, who started 10 of the Revs final 11 games of the 2018 season after arriving during the Secondary Transfer Window, walked gingerly off the field during warmups.

The 31-year-old, who was in Brad Friedel’s original starting XI and was slated to wear the captain's armband, was replaced by Jalil Anibaba, who started centrally alongside Antonio Delamea.

After the match, it was revealed Mancienne suffered a back injury.
