Jozy Altidore - Toronto FC - October 30, 2017

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension

It's official: Jozy Altidore is remaining with Toronto FC for the foreseeable future.

Altidore and TFC have agreed to a contract extension through 2022, the club announced Thursday. Altidore will remain a Designated Player.

ā€œThis is my family, this club and this city,ā€ Altidore said in a club statement. ā€œThe fans, from the first day, they accepted me, they gave me the right to show what Iā€™m all about, and they took me in. Weā€™ve built something great together and Iā€™m really eager to see whatā€™s to come.ā€

Altidore, 29, has scored 45 goals in 88 MLS appearances with Toronto since signing for the club ahead of the 2015 season. He has a total of 60 goals in 115 appearances across all competitions, picking up an MLS Cup victory, one Supporters' Shield triumph as well as three Canadian Championships.

ā€œJozy has been a big part of the organization and the new contract ensures that he will remain with the club for years to come. While it is important to make changes to your roster in different moments, continuity is also a critical component to successful organizations,ā€ said TFC GM Ali Curtis.

ā€œJozy is an excellent player and he is capable of playing an enormous role in leading our club to success. On a professional level, I am looking forward to working with Jozy, but on personal level, Iā€™m looking forward to getting to know him for the person that he has developed into.ā€

Altidore was entering the final season of his contract in 2019 and has seen the club transfer Sebastian Giovinco and Victor Vazquez earlier this offseason. Toronto were eliminated from the Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 this week as Altidore missed the series due to injury.

TFC kick off their 2019 MLS campaign on Saturday against the Philadelphia Union (1 pm ET | MLS Live on ESPN+, TSN1 & TSN4).
