Fabian Herbers closeup - CHI preseason

Fabian Herbers left things for late in the Chicago Fire’s final 2019 MLS Preseason presented by Advocare match, scoring the winner five minutes from full time in a 1-0 win over the Charleston Battery in the Carolina Challenge Cup finale Saturday night.

Herbers, one of five substitutes in the 74th minute, took a pass from Amando Moreno and finished clinically from just inside the 18-yard box.

The goal gave the Fire the victory and awarded Columbus Crew SC, who beat FC Cincinnati, 3-0, earlier in the evening the Carolina Challenge Cup title for a third consecutive year.

#MLSisBack for the Fire as they head to Carson to take on the LA Galaxy March 2 (8 pm ET | FS1, Fox Deportes).
