2019 Season Preview: Toronto FC

Toronto FC sit in a precarious position in 2019 ... after the club moved on from Sebastian Giovinco while Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley are in the final year of their contracts.

As the club strive to replace Giovinco with another big-money Designated Player, TFC are focused on conceding less goals. Toronto signed former LAFC and Montreal Impact center back Laurent Ciman, but will he be enough?

Team strengths and weaknesses

  • Strength: Toronto come into 2019 with a big defensive upgrade in the form of Ciman and have not been shy in their willingness to spend on a Giovinco replacement. Altidore and Bradley still have what it takes to be among the best in the league at their positions, and a breakout year last year from Jonathan Osorio should have fans optimistic about what he can bring this year.
  • Weakness: Whoever replaces Sebastian Giovinco will have to live up to the Italian's eye-popping performances, while the creative contributions of Victor Vazquez could be sorely missed.
