2019 Season Preview: Sporting Kansas City

Sporting Kansas City played some beautiful soccer last season en route to topping the west ... and look to be the same juggernaut this season.

SKC get goals from multiple sources, with Johnny Russell and Daniel Salloi each netting double-digit goals from the wings last year. There are a few questions, though, with Kristzian Nemeth stepping into the club's starting center forward role and Ike Opara traded away to Minnesota, but SKC always seem to figure it out.

Team strengths and weaknesses

  • Strength: Sporting have one of the most complete rosters in the league and the ability to handily deal with almost any loss. Lose Opara? They already had his replacement (Andreu Fontas) on the roster and they brought in two more center backs as well.
  • Weakness: However, the talk will almost always turn back to that No. 9 position. It's not that Sporting have been completely deficient there over the years, it's just that they've never really found a solution that stuck.

Predictions

  • Ben Baer: 4th in West
  • Calen Carr: 5th in West
  • Charlie Davies: 2nd in West
  • Matt Doyle: 4th in West
  • Bobby Warshaw: 1st in West
  • Andrew Wiebe: 1st in West
