2019 Season Preview: Montreal Impact

As long as the Montreal Impact have Ignacio Piatti ... they'll have a chance. But 2019 might be his last season in MLS.

The Impact will look to put together one more run led by Piatti if it is to be his last in the league. The club have another year of Saphir Taider in the midfield and added a trio of intriguing attackers to support Piatti, with Maxi Urruti, Harry Novillo and Orji Okwonkwo all acquired this winter.

Team strengths and weaknesses

  • Strength: They developed a clear identity in the second half of 2018, putting up a playoff-worthy 1.76 points per game in the final 21 matches, and they return the bulk of the squad; continuity is undervalued in the offseason evaluations.
  • Weakness: Ignacio Piatti is the only clear MLS star on the roster; is that enough to make the playoffs in MLS X.0?
