Portland Timbers 0, Phoenix Rising FC 1 | 2019 Preseason Match Recap

Timbers vs. Rising -- preseason -- 2019-02-20

Former MLS striker Adam Jahn found the back of the net late in the match to lead his new team, Phoenix Rising FC, to a 1-0 win over the Portland Timbers on Wednesday evening in Tucson as part of the Mobile Mini Sun Cup.

The Timbers, handed their first loss of the preseason, had an apparent go-ahead goal in the 80th minute when Andy Polo found Christhian Paredes with a cross through traffic across the face of goal. Video Review revealed that Polo was well offside when receiving the pass that sent him toward the near post, and the goal was disallowed.

Moments later, Jahn — who split seven seasons between Columbus Crew SC and the San Jose Earthquakes — weaved around Claude Dielna and went top-shelf for the game winner.

The match allowed Paraguayan right back Jorge Moreira, newly loaned from River Plate, to get some second-half playing time. It also provided a bit of comic relief; after Sebastian Blanco earned a stoppage-time red for tussling with Rising player Doueugui Mala (who also got sent off), he left the pitch by walking through the stands, and settled in next to a small but enthusiastic contingent of green-clad fans.
