New York City FCwere connected to Scottish winger Gary Mackay-Steven in the recently-concluded winter transfer window, but a new report out of Scotland claims the MLS outfit haven't given up on adding the attacker.

The Aberdeen Evening Express reported on Friday that Mackay-Steven, who will out of contract at Aberdeen at the conclusion of the current Scottish Premiership season, has been offered a pre-contract to sign with NYCFC after his deal ends.

Mackay-Steven is quoted in the report as keeping his options open while focusing on his current campaign in Aberdeen.

“I think bids were made for me, but, ultimately, I have got a lot of goals to accomplish here," he said.

“I’m very happy at Aberdeen so that is where we’re at just now. I’ve still not made any decisions on the future, but I have let the gaffer know that."

The 28-year-old has played in Britain his entire career. Coming through the youth ranks at Liverpool and Fulham, Mackay-Steven returned to his home country to embark on his pro career, having played for Airdrie United, Dundee United, Celtic and now Aberdeen, where he's been since 2017. This season, he's been one of the top players at his position in the Scottish Premiership.

NYCFC open the 2019 MLS regular season on March 2 at Orlando City SC.
