TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday they have signed defender Erik Godoy, on a one-year loan with a purchase option from Club Atletico Colon. The signing was done using Targeted Allocation Money.

Godoy, 25, joins Vancouver after spending his entire career to date in his native Argentina.

“Erik is a dynamic center back with really good experience for his age,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos in a team statement. “The Argentine league is an aggressive and intense league, a very competitive type of soccer. In watching Erik and talking to him, we felt that he suits well what we want to do here.”

The Buenos Aires native began his career with Tigre in 2012. After making over 100 appearances there, he moved to Belgrano in 2017, and then on to Colon last year. Godoy has experience in both South American regional cup competitions, with eight appearances combined in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.

He's the latest defender to join the Whitecaps this preseason under new head coach Dos Santos, joining PC, Derek Cornelius, Jasser Khmiri and Scott Sutter.

Vancouver kick off the 2019 MLS regular season on March 2 when they host Minnesota United FC.
