DC United sign top SuperDraft pick defender Akeem Ward

D.C. United have signed their top SuperDraft selection defender Akeem Ward, the club announced Thursday. D.C. took Ward No. 14 overall.

Ward, 23, starred for three seasons at Creighton University, where he made 47 appearances. He earned a USC First Team All-East Region selection and First Team All-Big East Conference nod in 2018.

“We are excited to have concluded a deal to get Akeem, under contract,” D.C. GM Dave Kasper said in a statement. "He will provide important depth at both outside back positions this season, and we look forward to his bright future with our club."

Ward is the third fullback to come to terms with the club over the last few days, as United signed Argentine Leonardo Jara and re-signed Oniel Fisher, who will miss the first half of the season due to a knee injury.
