Jo Inge Berget departs NYCFC after mutual termination of contract

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Released

New York City FC announced on Friday they have agreed to mutually terminate the contract of forward Jo Inge Berget.

The 28-year-old spent one season with NYCFC, scoring four goals and three assists in 23 MLS regular season appearances in 2018, in addition to one appearance in the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.

The Norwegian had previously spent his club career in Europe, with stops in his native country, Italy, Sweden, Wales and Scotland. He had been linked with a move back to Scandinavia earlier this month.

NYCFC would seem to be in the market for a central striker, following the departures of Berget and David Villa this offseason.

The club kick off the 2019 MLS regular season on March 2 at Orlando City SC.
