TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
D.C. United have signed midfielder Antonio Bustamante to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Monday. Bustamante joined the club's academy in 2012 and is the 10th Homegrown signing in club history.
Bustamante, 21, spent four seasons at The College of William & Mary, where he scored 34 goals and made 17 assists in 68 appearances. He won CAA Player of the Year in 2017 after scoring 15 goals in 21 appearances.
"Antonio is a promising young player and we are proud to add another Homegrown signing to our roster,” D.C.'s general manager and VP of soccer operations Dave Kasper said in a media release. “He had an excellent four years at the college level, and Antonio is now ready for the next step in his career. We look forward to integrating him into our group this preseason.”
Bustamante becomes D.C. United's 18th player under contract ahead of preseason training.
“We are thrilled for Antonio as he makes the impressive jump from the academy up to the D.C. United first team,” D.C.'s academy director Ryan Martin said. “He was a national standout during his four years at William & Mary and used his time at the collegiate level to continue maturing and developing as a player. He has all the tools to succeed at the next level and we’re looking forward to producing more players of his quality in our academy.”
