New Atlanta United head coach Frank de Boer announced his technical staff for the 2019 season on Monday, naming Orlando Trustfull, Bob de Klerk and Rob Valentino as his assistant coaches, while Aron Hyde will remain on staff as goalkeeper coach.
A fellow Dutchman, Trustfull has worked alongside de Boer at Ajax (2015-16), Inter Milan (2016) and Crystal Palace (2017) and brings over a decade of playing experience in the Dutch and English leagues. His coaching career began in the Ajax academy and also includes stints with the Netherlands national team program.
De Klerk previously worked with de Boer in the Ajax academy system and also served on the technical staffs at South Africa’s Ajax Cape Town and Chinese Super League side Dalian Aerbin. He carries MLS experience, too, having worked at Toronto FC under Aron Winter from 2011-12.
Valentino’s selection is a promotion from his previous post as an assistant at ATLUTD 2, the Five Stripes’ USL side. He previously worked as an assistant coach for Orlando City B, and played for the Lions for several years in their pre-MLS days in the latter stages of his decade-long career as a defender across several levels of North American soccer.
The first and only goalkeeping coach in ATLUTD’s short history to date, Hyde has held that post since Nov. 13, 2016.
Atlanta open preseason on Tuesday at their Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground in Marietta, Georgia.
