Real Salt Lake appear to be in need of defensive midfield reinforcement ahead of the 2019 season, and a new report claims they are looking to Italy to address that.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported on Thursday that RSL will be bringing in midfielder Everton Luiz. The report indicates RSL will acquire Everton Luiz on loan from Serie A side SPAL.

The Brazilian, 30, has been well-traveled in his career, with stops primarily in the Brazilian lower divisions before a move to Europe in 2013. He played in Switzerland for Lugano and St. Gallen, before moving to Serbia to play for Partizan Belgrade in 2016, winning a domestic double and being a Best XI league selection in 2016-17. In Jan. 2018, he moved to SPAL, helping them just avoid relegation last season, and currently working to do the same again this campaign.

RSL will welcome back club stalwart Kyle Beckerman in 2019 for his 13th season in Utah, but with Sunny out of contract and Damir Kreilach seemingly moved permanently to a more attacking position in Mike Petke's lineup, the team will likely need another holding midfielder for the upcoming campaign, which opens on March 2 against the Houston Dynamo.
