2018 MLS Cup lineups: Larrys Mabiala returns for Portland Timbers

Portland Timbers Diego Valeri celebrates with Larrys Mabiala

2018 MLS Cup is nearly here, and we know the players who will start in the title game for Atlanta United and the Portland Timbers.

Atlanta will use the same lineup as their last game, as Gerardo "Tata" Martino has used a similar group throughout the playoffs.

Expect the group to play in the 5-3-2 that has become a mainstay for the Five Stripes.

Portland, meanwhile, welcome back defender Larrys Mabiala after he recovered from his ankle injury suffered in the Western Conference Championship. Mabiala replaces Bill Tuiloma, who moves to the bench.

While there had been speculation Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese could opt for a five-man defense, this appears to be a 4-2-3-1 formation that has been primarily used of late. Also of note, Zarek Valentin retains his starting spot at right back, over Alvas Powell, who is on the bench.
