Real Salt Lake declines option on longtime defender Tony Beltran


Real Salt Lake on Tuesday announced it had declined contract options on 11 players for the 2019 season, including longtime right back Tony Beltran.

Beltran has been with RSL since 2008, but did not play at all in MLS regular season or playoff action in 2018 after undergoing ligament reconstruction surgery on his right knee late last year.

Other notable players not to have their options picked up include defender Demar Phillips, midfielders Luke Mulholland and Sunny, and forward Luis Silva. Goalkeeper Connor Sparrow, defenders Shawn Barry, David Horst, Demar Phillips, midfielder Jose Hernandez and forward Ricky Lopez-Espin also their options declined.

Six players saw their contract options picked up including Designated Player Jefferson Savarino and 2018 AT&T MLS Rookie of the Year Corey Baird. Goalkeeper Andrew Putna, defenders Danilo AcostaNick Besler and winger Sebastian Saucedo will join them on the 2019 RSL roster.
