Acosta returns, Castillo in negotiations as Rapids announce roster moves

TRANSFER TRACKER: Roster Update


The Colorado Rapids are taking steps to rectify a disappointing 2018 season, starting with their roster update. The club announced they have exercised the contract options for four players while declining eight.


Kellyn AcostaDeklan WynneDillon Serna and Niki Jackson will all return to the club in 2019.


Acosta, 23, was acquired from FC Dallas in July and is a centerpiece to the club. He made 12 starts after being acquired, scoring two goals and assisting three more. Wynne, 23, made 25 starts in his first season in MLS.


The club declined options for Kip ColveyMike da FonteGiles BarnesSam HamiltonEnzo MartinezRicardo PerezCaleb Calvert and Jack McBean.


McBean, 23, made a career-high 23 appearances with the Rapids and tied his career-high for goals (2) and assists (1). Barnes, 30, was acquired by the Rapids during the season and has spent the better part of the last eight seasons in MLS. 


Andrew Dykstra and Yannick Boli are out of contract while the club is negotiating with CF Monterrey to keep Edgar Castillo after deciding not to exercise the option to purchase the defender's contract. The 32-year-old started 28 games for the Rapids in his first MLS season, scoring three goals and adding five assists.
