LA Galaxy part ways with VP of soccer operations Pete Vagenas

Peter Vagenas - LA Galaxy - press conference

The LA Galaxy announced Tuesday that the club has parted ways with VP of soccer operations Pete Vagenas, effective immediately.

Vagenas spent most of his playing career with the Galaxy, twice winning MLS Cup. In 2016, he was named general manager and was promoted to VP of soccer operations and Director of the LA Galaxy Academy after the 2017 season.

“The club has made the decision to part ways with Pete Vagenas,” said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein said in a media release. “After the last two seasons, we felt this move was in the best interest of the LA Galaxy going forward. Our search for a leader of our soccer operations department and a head coach remains ongoing. We’d like to thank Pete for all of his contributions to the LA Galaxy as a player and as a member of our soccer operations group.”

The Galaxy finished 2018 a point below the playoff line, amassing a record of 13-12-9. In September, the club and head coach Sigi Schmid "collectively decided" to part ways with six games left in the season.
