USA, Canada begin quest to reach World Cup at Concacaf U-20 Championship

The 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship began play on Thursday morning, and the teams involved are chasing a place in the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland.


The tournament, taking place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, brings together 34 teams in an expanded field, across North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The top four finishers in the competition will qualify for next year's U-20 World Cup.


The US national team will embark in Group A play on Thursday when they take on Puerto Rico.

The Canadian national team, meanwhile, will start Group D play on Friday when they face Dominica.

Group winners advance to the second group stage, with play kicking off on November 13. The final is set for Wednesday, November 21 at 7 p.m. ET.
