TRANSFER TRACKER: Report
Get your Pity puns ready.
According to reporter Juan Arango, Atlanta United have completed the signing of River Plate star Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez for his €15 million release clause. The attacking midfielder will join the Five Stripes in January.
So it is now official. Pity Martínez will be part of @ATLUTD starting in January.— Juan G. Arango ?? ?? (@JuanG_Arango) October 19, 2018
TNT Sports LA reports the same.
Martinez, 25, has been at River Plate since 2015 and has been capped by the Argentinian national team twice. He's twice won Copa Argentina, twice Recopa Sudamericana and once Copa Libertadores since joining the club.
Martinez would occupy a Designated Player slot, but being that Atlanta already have the maximum three DPs, one will have to leave. Star Miguel Almiron has been heavily rumored to make a transfer to Europe after this season, which would solve that roster construction problem.
