Barcelona midfielder Ballou Tabla chooses Canada over Ivory Coast

Jean-Yves Ballou Tabla, Montreal Impact and Canada

Ballou Tabla has committed his international future to Canada over the Ivory Coast, forming one of the most exciting teenage wing pairings in the world with Alphonso Davies

Tabla, 19, was born in the Ivory Coast but raised in Montreal, where he made his MLS debut with the Impact, thus held duel-eligibility. On Tuesday he chose Canada.

A hot prospect, Tabla transferred to FC Barcelona in January, months before his former teammate Davies would have his move to Bayern Munich confirmed. He was one of 13 Barcelona B players brought up to the first team for Barcelona's preseason tour to America this summer.

Tabla had two goals and two assists in 21 appearances (11 starts) in his lone MLS season with the Impact in 2017.
