He may be back in American soccer, playing in MLS for the Colorado Rapids, but Tim Howard still has a connection to England, where he played for Manchester United and Everton from 2003-16.
Greater London club Dagenham & Redbridge announced on Friday they have changed ownership to an American consortium, which includes Howard, the former US national team starting goalkeeper and longtime Premier League mainstay.
"The new consortium, Victoria Road Football, LLC is a company led by Peter B. Freund, Craig Unger and former Premier League goalkeeper, Tim Howard. The group has already had a successful launch of professional soccer in Memphis, TN with the United Soccer Leagueās Memphis 901 FC," the team statement said.
Dagenham & Redbridge play in the English National League, the fifth tier of men's adult soccer in the country. Formed in their current state in 1992 as a merger between Dagenham and Redbridge clubs, the club has roots that stretch all the way back to 1881. The Daggers moved up into League Two for the first time in 2007-08, then found promotion to League One in 2010-11, before moving back into the non-league system last season.
Prior to the sale, the club's future was in doubt, with the team appealing for money to help them stay afloat.
