The Independent Panel, consisting of one representative from the United States Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association, and one representative nominated by the Professional Referee Organization, announced the denial of two red card appeals on Friday.

The first was Orlando City SC’s appeal of the red card issued to midfielder Cristian Higuita for violent conduct in the 54th minute of Orlando’s match against D.C. United last Sunday.

Higuita will serve his red-card suspension in Orlando City’s next regular season match on August 24 against Atlanta United.

The Independent Panel also denied FC Dallas’ appeal of the red card issued to defender Reto Ziegler for violent conduct during second half stoppage time of Dallas’s match against the Seattle Sounders last Sunday. Ziegler will serve his red card suspension on Saturday against Minnesota United FC (8 pm ET | TV & streaming info).

Each club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including playoffs. Both FC Dallas and Orlando City SC have one unsuccessful appeal remaining for the 2018 season.
