TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing
FC Cincinnati announced they have signed another player with an eye toward MLS — Swedish international defender Pa Kanote, most recently with Serie A side S.P.A.L. — on a one-year loan arrangement with a purchase option. Though Kanote is signing a year-long MLS contract, the league will subsequently loan him to Cincy's USL roster for the remainder of the 2018 season.
Cincinnati would either need to pick up Kanote's purchase option or negotiate a loan extension for him to complete the 2019 season in MLS.
The deal is pending receipt of his ITC and P-1 Visa.
The news follows Monday's announcement that FC Cincinnati acquired Fanendo Adi and Fatai Alashe from the Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes, respectively.
According to an announcement published on the FCC website, Kanote is a product of famed Swedish club FF Malmo's academy, and played four seasons for Malmo's senior squad — including six Champions League appearances and three CL qualifier appearances — before departing for Italy in July 2017. Kanote also has three caps with Sweden's senior team, after moving up the youth ranks, representing Sweden's U-23s at the most recent Olympic Games.
