Boston-based journalist Frank Dell'Appa reported on Friday that the New England Revolution recently attempted to sign Spanish attacker Bojan Krkic, only to be stymied by his lofty salary requirements.

A darting, elusive product of FC Barcelona's famed La Masia system who can fill multiple attacking roles, Krkic inspired rich hype and lofty expectations when he broke Lionel Messi's record for youngest-ever Barça debut at age 17 in 2007.

He scored 41 goals in 163 appearances across all competitions over four seasons with FCB, but subsequently found himself a nomad, playing for six clubs across four of Europe's top leagues in a series of transfers and loan moves.

The Spanish international is currently on English side Stoke City's books, reportedly through the end of the 2019-20 season; the Potters were relegated from the Premiership earlier this year. The MLS Secondary Transfer Window opens on July 10 and runs until Aug. 8.
