Jack Rodwell - Sunderland

Jack Rodwell may be a Premier League champion, but he's reportedly looking for a new challenge stateside.

SB Nation's Sunderland blog Roker Report reported on Thursday that Rodwell's contract will be ended with Sunderland, paving the way for a move to MLS.

Rodwell, 27, has played in his native England his entire career to date. Beginning with Premier League side Everton, where he made his first-team debut in 2007, Rodwell established himself there before moving onto Manchester City, in the midst of their rise to one of the elite teams in England. While he didn't play frequently, the midfielder won the Premier League in 2013-14 before moving onto Sunderland in 2014.

At Sunderland, Rodwell and the club went through a years-long rocky stretch, from injuries and a long winless streak in Premier League play for the player, to back-to-back relegations to the English third tier the past two seasons for the team itself.

Rodwell has primarily played as a deep-lying midfielder, and has been capped by England. It is unclear if Rodwell's interest in MLS is mutual with any clubs at present, and if it is, whether there are multiple teams in the league interested in the player.
