The U.S. Soccer Development Academy reaches the pinnacle of its 10-month season this week, with four MLS academy teams set to play league championship matches on Tuesday at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri.
Atlanta United will face the Seattle Sounders in the U16/17 Final, while the LA Galaxy and New York City FC will face off in the U18/19 Final after hard-fought Semifinal wins on Sunday. Matches are streamed live on the Development Academy website.
The Development Academy playoffs kicked off on June 18 at the SoCal Sports Complex in Oceanside, California with 16 MLS teams fielding teams in the 32-team U16/17 age group and 17 in the U18/19 age group.
Fifteen MLS teams have teams in each age group, with Atlanta looking to repeat at the U16/17 age group.
Each age group consists of eight, four-team groups where teams play the other three teams once. The top team in each group advances to the knockout rounds, with the Quarterfinals set for June 25-26.
The top team in each group advanced to the Development Academy Quarterfinals. Teams earn three points for a win and one point for a draw. ("x" = Advanced to Quarterfinals).
The scene then shifted to Swope, site of the Academy Semifinals on July 8 and the Finals two days later.
