Uruguay head coach Oscar Washington Tabarez revealed his 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup on Saturday, and Seattle Sounders midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro did not make the final cut.

Lodeiro, 29, was aiming to play in his third consecutive World Cup for his country. Uruguay are in Group A in Russia, alongside the host country, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Because the midfielder is on the provisional roster, should another player on Uruguay's roster become injured, Lodeiro could be drafted into the squad as a replacement. However, his absence from the 23-man roster likely comes as good news to the Sounders, who are in 11th place in the Western Conference ahead of the Week 14 action.
