D.C. United's countdown to their long-awaited new home crossed another big milestone on Wednesday, as the grass playing surface was installed at Audi Field.

The intimate downtown venue along D.C.'s Southwest waterfront is scheduled to debut on July 14 with a match vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps, and laying down the pitch provides a tangible reminder of how closely that occasion is looming.
United fans quickly took to social media to express their excitement:
Go ahead and share @AudiField Live Cam shots of an ever growing swath of grass with your lunch companions and invite them out for all the fun with @dcunited supporters! https://t.co/Du74YTwlAP pic.twitter.com/392ZRqIkvc— ScreamingEagles (@ScreamingEagles) May 30, 2018
That trip to Cascadia is one of four more road matches before the Black-and-Red finally get to move into Audi Field, the successor to RFK Stadium, their home since the inaugural season of MLS in 1996. You can view the progress on Audi Field in real time via a construction cam on the venue's website.
