The New York Red Bulls announced on Thursday they have signed midfielder Daniel Royer to a new multi-year MLS contract.

Royer, 27, is in his third season with the Red Bulls, after transferring from FC Midtjylland in August 2016.

"We are pleased to reach an agreement with Danny to extend his time in New York," said Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett in a team statement. "Danny fits both our style of play and club culture, and we look forward to him contributing to our continued success."

Royer enjoyed a strong 2017 campaign with the Red Bulls, scoring 12 goals and three assists in 26 MLS regular season appearances. He won MLS Player of the Month in July 2017, after scoring six goals in four games. He also played in three MLS Cup Playoffs games last season, scoring two goals and an assist.

"Danny is an integral part of our team, and a player that we think will continue to grow and excel in this league," said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. "He is gifted around the goal and has the qualities and mindset that are required to play our style on both sides of the ball."

Prior to joining the Red Bulls, the Austrian had spent his career in Europe. Getting his start in his native country with Pasching, he also played for Ried and eventually Austria Wien, as well as German sides Cologne and Hannover 96, before playing for Danish side Midtjylland. Royer also has six caps for the Austrian national team.

"It's a great feeling," said Royer. "It's a great club. I like the philosophy, I like the team, I like the staff. I like everything here. I'm happy that I re-signed."
