Josef Martinez scores most goals in MLS history through 25 games

Atlanta United FC striker Josef Martinez has seemed to score nearly every game since entering MLS at the start of the 2017 season. There's a reason for that, and it's because it's true.

Martinez scored in Atlanta's 5-0 win over LAFC on Saturday, and in the process notched his 24th goal in MLS regular-season play. He's played 25 games, scoring 0.96 goals per game thus far. Even for strikers, that's an impressive rate.

And as for the sheer number. Martinez's 24 goals in his first 25 games best any player in MLS history. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Martinez just edges the trio of Stern John, Mamadou Diallo and Carlos Ruiz, who each tallied 23 goals in their first 25 games.
