Honduran political situation brings venue change for RBNY's CCL away game

It turns out the New York Red Bulls will be traveling to Costa Rica rather than Honduras when the CONCACAF Champions League begins next month.

On Monday CONCACAF announced it had approved the venue change for two round-of-16 matches in the competition because of current political unrest in Honduras. As a result, the Red Bulls will now face Honduran side Olimpia behind closed doors at the Estadio Nacional in Costa Rica's capital of San José, in the teams' first leg on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Even had the Red Bulls traveled to Honduras, they would've still faced Olimpia at an empty stadium as a result of CONCACAF sanctions against the club.

The teams will still play their return leg at Red Bulls Arena on Thursday, March 1.
