Could Andrea Pirloā€™s successor at Juventus be ready to follow his path to Major League Soccer?

Those are the rumblings out of Italy, where reports claim that Juve legend Claudio Marchisio is considering a move to MLS at the close of the current Serie A campaign.

A versatile central midfielder who has transitioned from an all-action, box-to-box role to more of a deeper-lying regista with the passage of time, Marchisio is a local boy who has spent his entire career at Juventus save a season on loan at Empoli a decade ago.

ā€œThe Little Princeā€ has contributed greatly to the Turin clubā€™s sustained run of domestic dominance, with Juve currently riding a streak of six consecutive Serie A championships, a period also marked by three Coppa Italia titles.

But Marchisio, who turns 32 this month, has been hampered by injuries in recent years and has seen his role decline this season, leaving him contemplating a North American adventure like the one that Pirlo enjoyed with New York City FC, according to a TuttoSport report on Tuesday. Speculation was fueled by his cryptic message (ā€œWhatever the future holdsā€) on an Instagram post of him and his wife during a recent holiday.

Marchisio and Pirlo were side-by-side mainstays of the Juventus midfield from 2011-15, and both contributed years of devoted service to the Italian national team as well. He also played with Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco at Juve for many years.

Marchisio holds 55 international caps for the Azzurri, including a major role on the sides that finished second at the 2012 European Championship and third at the 2013 Confederations Cup.
