FC Dallas continued their offseason defensive makeover on Tuesday, when they announced that they’ve signed 31-year-old center back Reto Ziegler from Swiss first division side FC Luzern.

Ziegler has spent time in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, Russian Premier League and Turkish SuperLig, but has spent the last four seasons in his native Switzerland. He moved from FC Sion to Luzern in September, and had two goals in nine league appearances for the club this season. He had eight goals in 25 league appearances for Sion last season. Since the start of the 2015-16 season, he has made 64 starts and scored 13 goals.

Prior to returning to Switzerland in 2014, Ziegler spent time in Italy with Sassuolo, Juventus and Sampdoria, totaling 145 appearances in Serie A. He played in the Premier League early in his career, appearing 34 times across three seasons with Tottenham and Wigan Athletic.

He has 34 career appearances with the Switzerland national team, and was a part of the country’s squad at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. He joins FCD following the club’s December trade of center back Walker Zimmerman to LAFC.
