As new manager Remi Garde goes about the business of building a Montreal Impact squad in his image, some reports suggest he may lean heavily on his connections to French football.

French outlet Foot01 asserts that Garde could be targeting three players from the Ligue 1 side he once coached, Olympique Lyonnais, and also pursuing a formal partnership between the two clubs.

Meanwhile, Montreal-area writer Nilton Jorge reports the Impact are in talks with Ligue 2 midfielder and Congolese international Remi Mulumba, as well as Uruguayan striker Rodrigo Aguirre.

The prospective partnership with Lyon is particularly interesting given Montreal's history utilizing a similar bond with Serie A side Bologna FC.

Current Impact players Blerim Dzemaili, Matteo Mancosu and Deian Boldor all have connections to Bologna, as did prolific, now-retired striker Marco Di Vaio.

Garde coached Lyon from 2011 to 2014, leading the side to the French Cup and French Super Cup titles in 2012.
