Minnesota United FC have loaned forward Johan Venegas to Deportivo Saprissa for 2018, the Costa Rican club announced on Thursday.

Venegas, 29, was acquired by Minnesota in a trade with Montreal last December. He scored two goals and notched five assists in 22 games and 12 starts in regular-season action for the Loons.

He first joined MLS in the summer of 2015, when he moved to the Montreal Impact from Costa Rican side Alajuelense. In total, he has four goals and six assists in 54 regular-season appearances in MLS.

While he never quite clicked in the league, Venegas has been stellar for Costa Rica over the past couple of years, scoring three goals in 13 World Cup qualifying appearances and registering another tally in the 2016 Copa America Centenario. He has nine goals in 44 career caps for Los Ticos
