A Nigerian outlet is reporting that the New York Red Bulls have signed 18-year-old Nigerian forward Jerome Philip.
Own Goal Nigeria reported on Monday that the Red Bulls beat out offers from Norway and the Czech Republic to land the lanky striker, who is expected to join the Nigerian U-20 national team for their upcoming qualifiers for the 2019 African Youth Championship.
If the report is true, Philip's signing would fit the profile of other youth international players that the organization has brought in to play for its USL side, New York Red Bulls II, such as Douglas Martinez or Junior Flemmings.
